About Kirsten

Kirsten C. Ivany, Registered Clinical Counsellor

You are not alone. I support individuals in restoring trust in themselves—their minds, their bodies, and their nervous systems—so healing can take place and hope can feel within reach again.

When past experiences—trauma, grief, loss—still carry weight, sometimes the first step is simply making room. I believe healing often begins by creating a clearing space before the deeper work can unfold.

My work is informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, EMDR, somatic approaches, and an interest in psychoneuroimmunoendocrinology — the study of how our thoughts, emotions, nervous system and hormones interact with our immune system and overall health.

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent years in the aviation industry—an experience that gave me firsthand understanding of the pressures faced by those in high-stress, high-responsibility environments. That background shapes how I work with clients navigating overwhelm, burnout, and the weight of sustained pressure.

What sessions feel like: In our work together, we'll move at a pace that feels safe and respectful. You bring your story and your wisdom. I'll bring warmth, steadiness, and evidence-informed tools to help you meet what's hard with more clarity and choice.

My Approach

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT helps you develop psychological flexibility — learning to be present, open to experience, and guided by your values rather than controlled by difficult thoughts and feelings.

In sessions: We'll explore what matters most to you, practice being present with discomfort, and build habits aligned with your values.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing helps the brain process distressing memories, reducing their emotional intensity and allowing natural healing to occur.

In sessions: Using guided bilateral stimulation, we'll work to reduce the emotional charge of difficult memories at a pace that feels safe.

Narrative Therapy

Your life is a story, and you are its author. Narrative therapy helps you re-examine and reshape the stories you tell about yourself, separating problems from your identity.

In sessions: We'll look at the stories shaping your sense of self, externalize what feels stuck, and create space for new meaning.

Somatic Therapy

Your body holds wisdom and memory. Somatic approaches help you reconnect with physical sensations, release stored tension, and build a deeper sense of safety in your own body.

In sessions: We'll tune into physical sensations, practice grounding and regulation techniques, and build awareness of how your body communicates.

My practice is informed by psychoneuroimmunoendocrinology — the study of how our thoughts, emotions, nervous system and hormones interact with our immune system and overall health.

"Kirsten is incredibly warm, respectful, and deeply committed to her clients. She has a gentle but powerful way of holding space and isn't afraid to explore the deeper layers of what someone is going through. Working with her feels both safe and meaningful."
